Description

Join the Orange City Historic Preservation Board and learn about two significant events which shaped Orange City. The Fire Tour is approximate 45 minute walking tour focusing on the city’s burnt district where many of Orange City’s grand homes and businesses were impacted by our town’s worst fire that occurred on March 12, 1909. Echoes of the past may be heard from our historic fire truck as the history of the fire department is revealed along the way. This area includes North Oak, East University and East Graves Avenues. The Ice Tour is approximately 1.5 hours and will lead guest through the north east quarter of the historic district. Many years ago, this neighborhood was filled with grand home surrounded by thousands of citrus trees. Guest on this tour will hear about various historical figures, events, and architecture of our past highlighting the rise of Orange City’s citrus industry and its eventual demise after the dream shattering freezes of 1894 & 1895. This area includes North Oak, East French, North Thorpe, East University, North Leavitt and East Graves Avenues.
