Press release from Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn: Feb. 9, 2022 In the fight against COVID-19, the battlefront continues to be the home-front. This is why Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn is working with area veterans' organizations to equip these former members of the military with high quality KN95 protective masks and at home COVID-19 rapid tests. During a stop at the American Legion Wilson Ritch Post 432 in Port Jefferson Station, Legislator Hahn delivered the organization masks and tests for distribution to its members and those within the organization's Auxiliary. The effort is expected to protect those whose service has protected all of us, and will continue with deliveries to local Veterans of Foreign Wars posts scheduled. In addition to area veterans, Legislator Hahn and Assemblyman Steve Englebright provided protective masks to frontline United University Professions (UUP) workers at Stony Brook University. These public facing members of the campus community serve in positions that are at an increased risk for contracting COVID-19. Earlier this month, New York State provided Suffolk County with a limited number of masks and home COVID-19 antigen tests intended for at-risk members of the community. Through a partnership with local not-for-profit organizations, the County distributed these prevention and early detection measures to vulnerable seniors, homebound individuals and domestic violence victim centers. A very limited subsequent allocation of COVID-19 masks and tests was provided by New York State for distribution to additional organizations by local legislators.
