A Japanese toy from the past, a counterpart of the balancing fisherman. An example of a Yajirobe made in a workshop with Tadao. 3-Hour Workshop Date: Saturday, February 26, 2022 Time: 10am-1pm Description: Make your own Yajirobe, a Japanese balancing toy first introduced in the Edo period! Using bamboo sticks, wood branches, and various other wood shapes, Maser Woodworker Tadao Arimoto will lead students in creating dynamic and interactive objects that are fun for all ages. Banner image is a bench made by Tadao very similar to the benches at Contemporary Craft. Tuition: $55 + $5 materials fee Materials: All materials will be provided. Location: Contemporary Craft (5645 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201) COVID-19: In accordance with current CDC guidance - we are recommending all visitors wear a mask. Please note that the recommendation applies to teaching artists, resident artists, students and guests attending events taking place at CC. Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops. Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks. About the Artist Tadao Arimoto is a woodworker living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Before arriving in the United States, Tadao studied industrial design at the International Design Institute in Kyoto. For the past 40 years, he has practiced his craft in Pittsburgh and has often travelled to attend and teach domestic and international workshops. In recent years Tadao has contributed works to local universities, presented his works at national events, and been recognized as a Master Visual Artist by the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. While Tadao's focus has shifted from private works to larger and more public commissions, he invites anyone interested in his work, or in woodworking, to contact him. A classic balancing fisherman.
