NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Authorities say charges have been filed against a New Hyde Park woman accused of being highly intoxicated at a LA Fitness and attacking officers who tried taking her to a hospital for treatment. It happened Tuesday around 9 p.m. at 1111 Marcus Ave in New Hyde Park. Nassau County police were called to the gym after receiving a report about a disturbance at the business. Upon arrival, officers said they saw an "agitated and highly intoxicated" woman — later identified as Cindy Urquijo, 27 — who was "acting in a manner that was harmful to herself and others around her." Police said it turned physical when officers tried to take her to a local hospital. "As police attempted to render aid and transport the defendant to a local hospital for treatment, Urquijo became combative and physically fought with the officers," the police department said in a statement. "She punched an officer in the face causing a laceration to his lip and bit another officer in his forearm causing substantial pain and bruising." She was later placed under arrest and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said. The injured officers were also treated at the hospital, but were later released. Urquijo was charged with two counts of second-degree assault. She is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
