Description
MERRICK, NY — The Chatterton School was in lockdown briefly on Wednesday afternoon.
School principal Dana Bermas alerted families that there was a bank robbery in the area. A separate Facebook from the Bellmore-Merrick School District indicated police activity at the Roslyn Savings Bank on Merrick Avenue, which is adjacent to the elementary school.
"We have been notified from the Nassau County Police Department that all is now secure," Bermas wrote.
Students and staff quickly followed the district's emergency management protocols during the lockdown.
The principal said everyone did "an exceptional job" handling the crisis.
All normal procedures went back into effect and students were to have a typical dismissal, she wrote to parents.
Out of an abundance of caution, other schools in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District were also in lockdown.
Police would not confirm the bank robbery.
