Tony Renzoni is the author of Connecticut Softball Legend Joan Joyce. In this book, the Connecticut author profiles the multifaceted career of one of the country's greatest athletes. Connecticut Softball Legend Joan Joyce has been turned into a play at the Legacy Theatre in Stony Creek, CT. The new musical was part of the 2021 Family Series at Legacy. The book and lyrics were written by Keely Knudsen and Lauren Salatto-Rosenay with music by Brad Ross. There are additional songs by Knudsen, Salatto-Rosenay, Matthew Harrison and David Bell. "The musical has become a hit, which I am pleased about," Renzoni told me. There is a video of the LIVE performance at Legacy Theatre of the musical that was attended by Joyce herself. At the end of the musical, Joan Joyce addresses the cast, crew, and audience. Renzoni calls the musical a very inspiring and uplifting production for the entire family. It is "a loving tribute to the legendary Hall of Fame athlete/coach Joan Joyce, considered by many as the greatest female athlete in sports history." Joyce has been inducted into an incredible 20 Halls of Fame, for starring at a high level in fast-pitch softball, basketball, volleyball, golf, bowling and more. There will never be another Joan Joyce. Renzoni will be meeting with people at a theater in Waterbury in about a week who would like to bring the musical to Waterbury, the hometown of Joan Joyce. Joan Joyce will always be known as the unbeatable pitcher for the Raybestos Brakettes and the Connecticut Falcons, whose numerous career records--including an incredible 150 no-hitters and 50 perfect games--made her the best in the game. Truth be told, she was also one of the most gifted athletes the state has ever produced, as she also set records in basketball and later went on to a stellar career in the LPGA. A true pioneer of women's sports, Joan is currently the head softball coach at Florida Atlantic University. The book includes a forward written by Jane Blalock. "Joan Joyce is THE legend in our great game of softball. She was an amazing athlete and is an incredible coach. She helped me tremendously during my playing career and this outstanding book pays tribute to her. This book is a must read to be "in the know" of the history of our sport and the legendary Joan Joyce!" —Michele Smith, ESPN analyst, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Tony Renzoni, who was born and raised in Waterbury, has written a number of books, including Connecticut Rock 'n' Roll: A History and Historic Connecticut Music Venues.
