MILFORD, CT — The Board of Aldermen unanimously approved $10.29 million in bonding authorization for several school improvement projects at its Monday meeting. The projects were part of the Board of Education's capital improvement plan.
About $4.2 million was approved for athletic facility improvements at Jonathan Law and Joseph A. Foran high schools.
The tracks at both Foran and Law are in need of replacement, Board of Education chief Operations Officer James Richetelli said at the city's Board of Finance meeting last month.
Foran's tennis courts will also need replacement. Other smaller projects were also identified by athletic directors.
Another $3.67 million was approved for a partial roof replacement at Joseph A. Foran High School. Portions of Foran's roof are more than 20 years old and the project is eligible for state funding, Richetelli said at the Board of Finance meeting.
Traffic flow and safety improvements at Orchard Hills Elementary School will cost about $1.89 million. The improvements will help with congestion that occurs during arrival and dismissal.
Playground and exterior improvements at a number of schools will cost about $525,000.
