Milford, CT- The Milford Senior Center received a generous monetary support from the The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven's Donor Advised Fund in the amount of $15,000. The anonymous contribution will be designated to support the Center's work with older adults and senior members in Milford. A portion of the funds have been allocated to the Ahrens Program, a respite program for individuals with cognitive impairments to assist with participants program fees. "I am delighted to say participants of the Ahrens program will receive a credit applied directly to the daily program fee to support individuals to attend the program." said Leonora Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Milford Senior Center. The daily cost to attend the Ahrens program is $10.00. The program runs Monday through Friday. A letter sharing the good news was sent to current Ahrens clients and their families. Fees for the program goes back to the Ahrens program to purchase such needed activity materials, staff training and for live entertainment. "We want to offer the best program for our clients and offer family members a safe place for their loved one to enjoy." shared Tiara Harris, Ahrens Program Coordinator. The remainder of the monies will be designated to other senior center departments such as the senior center social services department. The monies there will be used to assist clients with application fees, medical co-pays and other emergent needs of community-dwelling older adults. A small portion of the monies was also set aside for the purchase of COVID-19 supplies and general safety equipment for senior center employees. The Milford Senior Center, located at 9 Jepson Drive in Milford and is operated under the Milford Council on Aging, a 501(c)3, non-profit organization.
