BUFFALO, NY — Two people were injured in a shooting Wednesday at McKinley Vocational High School in Buffalo, prompting police to shut down streets and nearby Buffalo State College to cancel evening classes. Buffalo police confirmed a shooting at the high school just after 4:15 p.m. ET. Two people — a student and a security guard — were injured, according to multiple reports citing Buffalo police. The male student was shot multiple times and was taken by ambulance to Oishei Children's Hospital, police told the Buffalo News. The security guard was shot in the leg, the newspaper reported. Nearly 100 students and several teachers were in the school at the time of the shooting, according to Buffalo News. The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. when a suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots near a parking lot outside the school, a police spokesman told the Buffalo News. The school was placed on lockdown; once police determined the building was safe, school officials began releasing students to parents. A suspect has not been apprehended, Spectrum News 1 reported. In a tweet, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she and her team were "closely monitoring" the developing situation. "@nyspolice are supporting local law enforcement and we have offered assistance to local officials. If you are in the area, please follow guidance from law enforcement and local officials," Hochul tweeted. A shelter-in-place order was implemented on the nearby SUNY Buffalo State College campus. The order was lifted at 6:30 p.m., WKBY reported. The college also canceled all Wednesday evening classes.
