EAST HAVEN, CT —Have you always wanted to operate the trolleys at the Shore Line Trolley Museum and help make history come alive for our visitors? We have two very exciting opportunities that may interest you! 1) The Trolley Operator training class is a comprehensive program with 4 weeks of combined on-site and online instruction. You will receive hands-on training on operating the cars and handling all aspects of the railway, plus historical information and public speaking skills. After taking your final exam and "road test" (it's like when you got your driver's license, except no steering!) you'll complete your training with at least 3 days of on the job training during our operating season. Then you'll join our all-volunteer operating staff, who collectively keep the railroad rolling along for the enjoyment of visitors young and old. 2) The Trolley Tour Guide program is for those who love interacting with the public, but do not desire the more intense mechanical instruction on trolley operation. The course is 2 weeks on site, learning about the museum and practicing public interaction, and 1 additional online session. After training, you'll be paired with an experienced volunteer before "going solo."The operator training class will be held on Saturday March 5, 12, 19 and 26 at the museum, with the final exam on April 2. You must be 18 or will be turning 18 during the 2022 operating season to take the class in 2022. There is no fee for this class, however all participants must be members of the museum with dues paid for 2022. Included are printed and online training materials, engraved name tag, and brass hat badge engraved with personal membership number. The Tour Guide class will be held at the museum Saturday April 23 and Saturday May 7.
