Description
PARAMUS, NJ — In accordance with Gov. Phil Murphy's lift on universal mask mandates in schools, face masks will be optional for students and staff of Paramus Public Schools starting March 7.
In a statement, Paramus Superintendent of Schools Sean Adams said such changes were anticipated in their Safe Return to School Plan. The plan outlines that, in the event the governor's order is lifted the school district will consult with the Paramus Board of Health in measuring local health data and needs while following the Center for Disease Control and New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) guidelines. "As these data/needs/guidelines change, the district will adjust its policies accordingly by balancing the benefits of mitigating risk of virus transmission relative to masking with the benefits of providing a quality in-person learning experience."
The district will update with masking-optional protocols once they have received the new guidelines from the NJDOH.
"Please know that I fully understand and appreciate the varying perspectives on the issues of health and safety within our school community," Adams said. "The district will continue to honor its commitment to provide a safe, productive, and high quality learning environment for our students."
