Press release from MPAC:
Feb. 9, 2022
Mayo Performing Arts Center is making a recorded version of Virginia Repertory Theatre's performance of "Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad" available for no charge to area schools from February 7-February 21.
The event was scheduled to be performed live at MPAC on February 8-9, but the live event was discontinued due to concerns about COVID. As a result, MPAC will cover the cost that schools normally would be charged for showing the on-demand event.
Participating schools will have unlimited access to the performance for one week. They will also have access to a study guide and additional materials from Virginia Rep.
Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad is a deeply moving history lesson that tells the story of the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery. It is appropriate for grades from 4-12.
"As part of our commitment to tell diverse stories, we are delighted to be able to make Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad available on demand during Black History Month at no cost to schools in Morris County and throughout the region," said Allison Larena, President and CEO, Mayo Performing Arts Center. "We hope that schools take advantage of this opportunity to present this story of a true American hero."
Schools interested in this event can make a reservation with Jen Clarke ([email protected]).
Support for MPAC's education programs is provided by the Morris County Board of Commissioners.
