Press release from City of Fort Worth: February 09, 2022 The City Council and the city's Diversity & Inclusion Department are hosting a community celebration in observance of Black History Month. The event is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, outside the Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Texas St. The event will showcase Black excellence in the Fort Worth community with a mini-open house and informal reception featuring local organizations that uplift Black history, culture, arts and wellness. The reception and open house begin before the 6 p.m. City Council public comment meeting and will continue until at least 7 p.m. "Acknowledging and celebrating the rich contributions of the African diaspora to the American story of success, resilience and leadership should be a frequent exercise. However, this month we remind ourselves as Americans that our collective history is complex and complete with trauma and triumph," said Christina Brooks, City of Fort Worth chief equity officer and director of the Diversity & Inclusion Department. "It is our continued responsibly to create more of the latter." Some of the local organizations that will be represented at the open house include Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society, Amphibian Stage, Kimbell Art Museum, National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum, Visit Fort Worth and others.
