Annapolis Townhouse Fire Causes $200K In Damage: Officials

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Officials announced that an Annapolis fire caused $200,000 in damage to an end townhome on Monday. Nobody was hurt in the accidental blaze. Investigators think the flames were caused by improperly discarded smoking materials on the second-floor balcony, which is where the fire started. The occupants reported the blaze in the unit block of Muir Woods Court around 12:45 a.m. First responders said the flames extended to the attic and the roof of the two-story townhouse. A team of about 45 controlled the fire in around 35 minutes, a press release said. Crews found smoke detectors on the property, but they said the alarms did not activate. Firefighters did not mention any damage to the neighboring home. The release said the American Red Cross offered housing assistance, but the residents declined. The Annapolis Fire Department thanked the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the Naval Support Activity Annapolis Fire Department for assisting its response. Have a story idea?
