Press release from Johnson City Public Library:

2022-02-07
Deep, intentional listening is more important than ever these days. Your Library hosts an ongoing series called Community Conversations to give you a chance to listen to and learn about others (and let others get to know you!) in a nonjudgmental space.
Our next conversation is on Saturday, February 12 from 2-4 p.m. at the Library. Registration is required and can be completed here.
Community Conversations are facilitated and structured listening circles in which participants practice listening to each other. JCPL Librarian Lisa Williams facilitates the conversations to make sure the listening circle format is followed.
Listening circles are active, engaged conversations that elicit honesty and vulnerability in a safe space. They aren't therapy or study groups, or a space to debate or educate others. Together the participants set the guidelines, and each person has a designated amount of time to speak.
Each Community Conversation has a different broad theme. Themes are left broad and open-ended so everyone is able to contribute and explore the topic in their own way.
