Description
WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A car downed a utility pole on Route 57 Wednesday morning, shuttering all lanes of the roadway in Mansfield Township near County Route 632/Asbury Anderson Road, according to the police department.
The crash closed the road additionally by Clinton Avenue, said Ptl. David Hamf, a spokesperson for the Mansfield Township Police Department.
Route 57 could be closed for several hours into the afternoon as the pole is replaced, Hamf told Patch during a phone interview.
The car crashed into the pole at about 9:45 a.m, he said, the driver cracking it, with wires hanging into the roadway.
The pole did not fall on the car during the one-vehicle accident, Hamf added, and said he could not disclose further information on the driver's condition.
Hamf said New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) Traffic Diversion team has been on the scene, directing traffic through a detour. The DOT has been waiting for the utility company to arrive, he said.
Drivers can find traffic updates on the state's website, www.511NJ.org, Hamf said.
This is a developing story. Patch will provide further details as they become available.
