Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines: The Des Moines Police Department is asking for help identifying a bank robbery suspect wanted in two January bank robberies. The banks involved were Metro Credit Union in the 100 block of University Avenue and the Central Bank in the 3400 block of Ingersoll Avenue. Though the suspect indicated he was armed, no employees or customers were injured in either robbery. (KCCI Des Moines) Des Moines is pursuing a $10 million plan to renovate the 2nd Avenue Bridge over the Des Moines River and replace the bridge over Birdland Drive. Construction is set to start this spring and finish in the fall of 2023. The council also approved a $206,000 Homeland Security grant for the Des Moines Police Department, with funds going towards DMPD's Ordinance Detection Task Force. (KCCI Des Moines) Jasper County has denied Des Moines airport's request for $500K for a new terminal. Supervisors agreed the federal stimulus money should be for the local taxpayers.
