Press release from the City of Hammond: February 8, 2022 Department: Hammond Sanitary District Job Title: Laboratory Technician Date Requested: February 3, 2022 Date Needed: ASAP Salary: $1,726.38 bi-weekly - Thursday through Monday work week Job Requirements: Must have valid Indiana driver's license and be insurable. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Must have college degree in Chemistry, Biology or related science. Must have knowledge of wastewater sampling methodology and preservation techniques. Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment, glassware and chemicals. Must have knowledge of chemical analysis of wastewater samples using the appropriate EPA approved methodology. Must have knowledge of proper safety and personal protection measures in working around wastewater and laboratory chemicals. Must currently possess or willing to obtain Indiana Wastewater Operator License within one year of employment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must have computer experience utilizing LIMS programs such as OPS as well as Excel. Must be able to follow all QA/QC and Chain of Custody procedures. Must attend and comply with all HSD training courses. Job Duties: Conduct analysis of samples brought into the laboratory utilizing HSD's EPA approved methods including all necessary QA/QC. Interpret analytical results to assure proper technic was used. Be able to successfully analyze unknown samples as part of HSD's required EPA DMR QA/QC protocol. Enter all laboratory data into OPS in a timely fashion. Properly maintain the laboratory equipment and work area as prescribed by HSD's EPA approved methods. Prepare reagents as necessary. Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Compare daily analytical data and notify supervisors of any questionable results. Work with other Laboratory Technicians as needed to complete special studies. Perform other duties as assigned. Hiring will be done in accordance with Hammond City Ordinance #8620 as it pertains to the residency requirement.Position will be posted internally only from February 3, 2022 until February 9, 2022. If the position is not filled internally, it will be held open for external applications an additional ten (10) days. The position will remain posted until filled or no more than 10 days.
