LEVITTOWN, PA — The Bolton Mansion, which has been situated in Levittown since 1687, has reported recent damages to the historic building. In a social media post, representatives of the mansion said that the damage occurred on the front steps of the building, most of which was caused by people sledding down them over the years, wearing away at the old stone and concrete steps. "We patched the steps and shortly after there [was a] video of young children with their parents scraping the mortar away," representatives of the mansion said on their official Facebook page. The page, which is overseen by Friends of Bolton Mansion, said that they have also had teenagers force open shutters, break lock hardware that was original to the building, attempt to open the basement doors, and break a handicap ramp on the property. The damages to the property have been estimated at $10,000. "We're asking the community to spread the word and to educate others (especially kids and teenagers) on this vandalism to help us keep this historic treasure safe from vandalism," the organization said on Facebook. Friends of Bolton Mansion are asking for help from the public in the form of donations, which will go toward restoring the damaged parts of the building. Those who are interested in donating to the restorations can do so on the Bolton Mansion's official website.
