BATAVIA, IL — An immersive, multimedia art exhibit is coming to downtown Batavia in March. Black Cactus Print House will host the installation that will allow visitors to not only observe but participate in as well. The two-day event, happening March 26 and March 27 and the brick-and-mortar, 11 E. Wilson St., was created to coincide with the unveiling of Nothing By Default, a multimedia art platform helmed by Black Cactus owner Andrew Heppner. Six years of growth at Black Cactus have culminated in Nothing By Default, which Heppner says allows the company to "launch a business that puts our passion for art and fashion to the forefront." "To make sure our unveiling is as overwhelming as our passion, we have created a one-of-a-kind art show called Thank You For Leaving The House," Heppner said in a statement. "This show will be like no art show you have seen, and we worked on this idea for one full year to make sure every detail is addressed so that residents of Batavia and the surrounding area will have a once in a lifetime experience." The art exhibit, titled Thank You for Leaving the House, will be equal parts art gallery and clothing pop-up, according to a news release, and visual art and apparel by several artists will be featured. Art featured will range from paintings and hand-screen-printed newspapers to repurposed vintage clothing and scratch-off cards. Organizers intend for the two-day show to change the way audiences interact with art by bringing them into the space where inspiration happens and where expression is tangible. "Attendees will have their senses greeted with a corridor designed to cleanse the mind of expectations," reads a description of the show. "As they move into the primary gallery space, visitors will be presented with visual artworks as well as unique vintage clothing modified to tell a story." Souvenirs will also be available for purchase to allow people to remember "an unforgettable and unprecedented experience," according to a news release. "We have taken the decoration and immersiveness just as serious as the art, and we are attempting to redefine the atmosphere in which consumers interact with art in all formats," Heppner said. "I can't wait to share our passion with everyone and finally pull back the curtain on a one-year project." To attend the show, people interested can sign up on Nothing By Default's website.
