MARIETTA, GA — Lockheed Martin is trying to secure a contract with the U.S. Air Force that could bring 1,000 jobs to Marietta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Lockheed said last week that it will submit a bid with Europe's Airbus to build a new refueling tanker plane for the Air Force, which is still up for consideration, called the KC-Y.
Airbus would build the plane in Mobile, Alabama and then fly the aircraft to Marietta for Lockheed to convert them to tankers, the AJC reported. Work would begin no sooner than 2024.
