Vegetable Farm Assistant

Jobs

Elkhorn WI

Description

LotFotL Community Farm is a 100 acre farm 10min west of Elkhorn and north of Delavan. We grow organic row crops, hay, and prairie seeds, raise pigs and chickens for meat, and grow 8-10 acres of veggies for weekly distribution to households throughout southeast Wisconsin. We have 2 positions available for 2022, 1 full time, and 1 part time(2-3days/wk). Work hours are 8-5pm mon-fri, and beginning in April, ending in October. We can work around a couple days off in the season, but there is no allowance system here. If you are scheduled, we expect you to be here. We provide veggies, life skills training, and a beautiful work setting as additional compensation. Sometimes too there is beer at the end of the day. You will be working with experienced people that are fair, patient, sometimes funny, and reasonable and enjoyable to work with, no matter what color your hair is, or whatever else about you is unique. Starting wage is $14/hr. End of year bonuses are possible. For the vast majority of your time here, you will be responsible for assisting in the planting, weeding, washing, and packing of orders for veggies, bread, eggs, cheese, meats, and other foodstuffs. Some animal chores, tractor and equipment training, and other learning opportunities included. 1 year's worth of commercial vegetable production experience ideal, but not necessary. Do these things excellently, and more money can become available. We will take you through a considerable training period, and review progress 2 month's into the work period. You needn't be an athlete to do this work, but it is not office/indoor unskilled work. We work in most all weather conditions. Bending, stretching, reaching, all this, all the time. Like farm yoga sort of. This work is important, challenging, rewarding, and time sensitive. It requires attention to detail AND flexibility, skill mastery AND humility. This is people work, meaning you will work with a team. It is also fairly solitary work in that few drive down our road on any given day. You can make the same $ pouring coffee or handing out receipts at stores, but you stand to gain very little beyond a check there. We have a lot of fun together, learn from each other, and at the end of the day, have much better jobs than most. If interested, send me a message telling me why you may wanna do this kind of work, what sorts of experiences you have had that might tell me you are a good fit for this kind of work, what scheduling conflicts you anticipate this year, and what your favorite book is (I guess favorite podcast can sub for favorite book, since few read anymore). Thanks tim ps-if posting is able to be read, the jobs are still "available" pss-i don't answer phone calls I don't recognize, so leave me a voicemail if you decide to call. Email preferred. Text ok, but not overly useful as a first contact.
