A BIG part of their job is to make sure the stock price keeps rising regardless of the effect on the company itself. Typical annual message from CEO to workers: I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is it's been a great year for the company thanks to all the unpaid overtime everyone put in. Sales and profits hit all time highs and the company really appreciates all of you. The bad news is that the company will need to cut expenses this year to remain competitive so 30% of the company will be moved to part time status with no healthcare coverage. Also, coffee in the break room will no longer be free. Thanks for a great year everyone. I'm off to Antigua with my new yacht that I bought with my 2 million dollar bonus. Keep up the good work!
