Description
DULUTH, GA — More than 20 rail cars derailed Wednesday morning near downtown Duluth, closing part of Buford Highway for several hours. Three people were reported to have minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
Atlanta TV Station 11Alive reported that the train hit a truck that was stuck on the tracks at about 9:25 a.m.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services tweeted that two of the cars were carrying hazardous material but nothing was spilled.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reported that multiple agencies responded, when "20-23 cars" as described by authorities derailed from tracks in the 3600 block of Buford Highway.
Although train cars were still being removed early Wednesday afternoon, traffic delays have since been cleared, according to the Duluth Police Department.
Patch will update this story as more details are available.
