Join AIA Wisconsin members on a construction tour of the manufacturing building of Komatsu Mining Corp.
This tour is intended for AIA members and Architecture Industry Professionals.
Komatsu Mining Corp is building a new global divisional headquarters on 60 acres in the Harbor District of Milwaukee. The campus includes a 185,000-square-foot office building, a 650-space parking structure, and a 440,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The manufacturing building is a new world-class facility that focuses on operational efficiency for the manufacture of some of the largest mining equipment in the world. The facility will employ over 1,000 people and will contain five structural bays that are 900 feet long with multiple cranes ranging in capacity from 5-ton to 125-ton.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the challenges of placing a heavy crane building on poor soils.Explore the planning process of meeting a manufacturing client’s needs and how it differs from most occupancy types. Recognize code exceptions and requirements specific to industrial uses.Examine the process of temporary occupancy and facility start up. Face masks may be required - come prepared. All PPE Required (Hard hats, eye glasses, vest, safety footwear).
