Description

Learn how to minimize food waste by creating your very own vermicomposting bin! Are you tired of throwing your food waste in the landfill? Would you like a nutrient-rich fertilizer for your garden or houseplants? Then expand your recycling efforts and minimize food waste by signing up for this Vermicomposting 101 workshop! Americans produce millions of tons of trash every year, and food waste & yard debris account for a third of it. When organic waste enters a landfill, it becomes a problem, because as it decomposes it releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas. When food waste is composted, it becomes a resource instead -- one that improves soil quality and the nutrient density of new food it's used to grow! Composting with worms (aka vermicomposting) is the easiest method to start composting. It is also one of the most simple, and effective, ways to make a BIG impact on the environment. In this workshop, you will learn the ins and outs of composting and walk away with everything you need to know to create, care for, and maintain your very own composting bin. Each participant will build their own vermicomposting bin to take home! In this workshop you will learn: Why we should care about compost and why it is SO important for the environment; The pros and cons of different types of composting methods; Why composting with worms is so simple and effective; How to create, care for, and maintain a vermicomposting bin; How to harvest and use your compost. What's included in the workshop: Step-by-step instructions and demonstration on how to build a simple vermicomposting bin; All of the materials to create a complete, ready-to-use worm bin; Vermicomposting cheat sheet; Additional 1-on-1 support from me after the workshop as needed (via email, phone, etc.) Kelsey is passionate about creating a more just, sustainable food system and world! She believes that individual actions make a huge difference and is here to educate and encourage choices that benefit the individual, community, and planet! She has experience working for a USDA Certified Organic urban farm, managing an organic tea business, and eduating all ages about sustainability, nutriton, and plant-based cooking!
