Joseph Weinberg will play a selection of works which will showcase the solo repertoire written for the Double Bass. In collaboration with pianist Tracy Wilson, Joseph Weinberg will play a selection of works which will showcase the solo repertoire written for the Double Bass from the 18th century up to the present day. This concert has been created as a culmination of the work done during Joseph’s independent study at Pittsfield High School. The evening is dedicated to Pittsfield High School String Orchestra’s conductor Alla Zernitskaya, who will be finishing a career of almost 30 years as a music teacher at PHS in June. There is no charge for admission (though reservations are required), but Joseph encourages attendees to contribute to the PHS Orchestra program by check or cash donation at the event. Molto Adagio - Rezitativo - Lied, Allegretto grazioso----Into The Night (Spatz, Alice)Joseph Weinberg began studying the double bass in 2018 under Alice Spatz at the Berkshire Music School. He has since worked with Brian Perry (Dallas Symphony Orchestra), Ira Gold (National Symphony Orchestra), Todd Seeber (Boston Symphony Orchestra), and Ed Barker (Boston Symphony Orchestra principal bassist.) He has been a participant in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Festival as a bassist in the symphony orchestra since 2020. In the summer of 2021 he virtually participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute’s Double Bass Workshop and Young Artists Instrumental Program. He simultaneously had the opportunity to perform as a bassist with the Stockbridge Sinfonia- a local, intergenerational, community orchestra- for their 2021 summer season. At the beginning of the 2021 school year Joseph joined the double bass section of the Empire State Youth Orchestra’s Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. In June he will be graduating from Pittsfield High School and, while he is unsure of where he will be attending, is applying to a variety of music schools and conservatories. Tracy Wilson earned a Master of Music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a concentration in piano and arts administration, with additional studies at Catholic University and an internship at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington D.C.) After the internship was completed, Tracy was offered a full time job as Coordinator for Programs for Children and Youth and served for three years in that position; during the summer months, she worked as Assistant Music Director of main stage productions and Music Director of the after-hours cabarets at Weston Summer Theatre in Vermont. Tracy recently wrapped up a 35 year career in arts administration, working in development at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, nine years as Director of Development and twice acting/interim director at Berkshire Museum, seven years with Boston Symphony Orchestra/Tanglewood, and nearly 17 years at Berkshire Music School’s Executive Director. Throughout her professional career as an arts administrator, Tracy was, and continues to be, actively involved in the local community as a collaborative pianist, conductor of the Stockbridge Festival Chorus, conductor of Stockbridge Sinfonia (a summer community orchestra), and church organist/choir director with First Congregational Church of Stockbridge. Seating/ Bar: 6:00 PM This event is indoors. Built in 1994 as a glass blowing studio, the building’s name references its roots. Now the venue produces theater, music, comedy, spoken word, educational workshops and more, providing a safe place to create dangerous work. Work that counteracts the passive, the isolating, the distance between people. Come experience joyful creation, partake in brave exploration, meet the person sitting next to you, share about what you’re seeing, buy them a drink. Our goal is to present relevant performing and visual art that is accessible for diverse audiences; art that connects and inspires us, and incites us to leap across cultural boundaries. The Foundry is a holding tank for raw, funny, challenging, empowering work that changes the lens through which we view each other.
