MICHIGAN — Michigan health officials on Wednesday reported 3,443 new cases of the coronavirus and 70 new deaths being attributed to the respiratory illness. Michigan's latest batch of coronavirus data bring the state's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 469,928. The coronavirus death toll in Michigan as of 10 a.m. Wednesday is 11,775, according to health officials. The state reported 3,082 new coronavirus cases Tuesday while also adding 173 more COVID-19 deaths. Michigan officials reported Saturday that 284,731 people in the state had recovered from the coronavirus. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services officials on Wednesday said they would not be releasing new COVID-19 data until Saturday, citing the holiday season. The state typically releases updated information everyday except Sunday, opting to instead release that information on Monday. Michigan is among the top 10 states in the U.S. in both reported COVID-19 cases and recoveries, according to the World Health Organization. According to the World Health Organization, the U.S. has reported more than 18.7 million cases of the coronavirus — the most in the world. Over 332,000 COVID-19 deaths have been tallied in the U.S., also the highest number in the world, with the U.S. reporting more than 11 million COVID-19 recoveries. Nearly 78.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.
