DOUGLASVILLE, GA — One dog in Douglasville is looking for her forever home just ahead of birthing a litter of puppies. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Douglas County Animal Shelter said the dog, Ellie Mae, was previously surrendered with her sister and three brothers, along with her sister's litter of six puppies. The siblings and puppies were surrendered after an animal welfare/breeding case, according to the post. Ellie Mae was shy when she was surrendered and took a long while to give her trust to workers, the shelter said. It was later discovered that Ellie Mae was pregnant. The shelter is now putting out a plea to the public to help the soon-to-be mom find her new home before giving birth. "A shelter is not the ideal place for a mom to give birth and care for her puppies," the post reads. "The stress it can put on the mom is very high!" Anyone interested in rescuing Ellie Mae is asked to contact the shelter at [email protected]. Click here to see a video of Ellie Mae playing with shelter workers and other dogs.
