Description
Cub Scout Pack 202 invites you for a winter hike/snowshoe! What are the Scout Essentials for a hike? Come find out! Bethel's Cub Scout Pack 202 invites anyone interested in winter hiking to join us for a hike on the trails behind the school. Before we hike, we'll talk about the Cub Scout 6 Essentials and the Scout 10 Essentials for hiking, how to dress for different kinds of weather, the buddy system, and more. Then the Cub Scouts will lead (and sweep!) hikes on the trails behind the elementary school. We may separate into two groups, depending on interest, ability, and numbers. Meet our local Cub Scouts, explore the great trails being developed in Bethel, and see what Scouting is all about. Instructor(s): Scout Pack 202 - Leaders: Dominic Yetz, Pack 202 Cubmaster; Dave Crosby, Pack 202 Den Leader; Will Wheeler, Pack 202 Den Leader Instructor Bio: Cub Scout Pack 202 was chartered in 2019 by the Bethel Rotary Club. Organized by a group of local parents, Pack 202 provides a positive and supportive environment for elementary-school-aged boys and girls to have fun while developing their character and learning practical skills. Pack leaders involved in this meet-up have years of experience winter hiking and leading hikes for all ages. Cub Scout Leaders Dave Crosby and Kim Kraus have decades of winter hiking experience in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Dave has led summer and winter hikes in New Hampshire's White Mountains and has completed multiple summer and winter ascents of Mt. Washington. All the instructors are interested in helping kids learn to have fun safely outdoors in all seasons and weather. All Pack 202 Cub Scout Leaders are experienced working with kids on this topic and are trained in youth protection by the BSA. Number of Sessions: This group meets one time. Materials to Have Prepared: Snowshoes or microspikes are recommended. If there's a source to borrow these, that could be helpful. Contact us at [email protected] for questions. Restrictions or Requirements: All ages welcome, elementary-aged and younger kids should be accompanied by an adult. Must be comfortable walking in the snow at least from the elementary school to the rec center and back. If trail conditions are not safe, we will meet up and talk about how to prepare for a winter hike and play some outside games.
