Description

This is a musical tribute to honor Philippines' legendary jazz pianist, Romy Posadas On January 31, 2022, legendary jazz pianist Romy Posadas died of, what his daughter Rowena said, “frustration that he can no longer do what he loves most — playing piano to entertain people,” coupled with old age. Romy or "Mang Romy" was a graduate of the UP Conservatory of Music with a major in piano. “That was the time he discovered jazz. He got suspended from school a couple of times because he was caught playing jazz,” Rowena shared. He was the first Filipino to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California twice, in 1981 and 1982, with his wife Rita on vocals, son Ricky on drums and Roger Herrera on bass. In 2012, he was awarded by JazzPhil-USA with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. This musical gathering is a tribute to him and will feature some of his musically gifted family members -- John Paul Maramba (bass), Vilma Posadas (piano), Boy Posadas (vocals) and Art Maramba (piano) -- and other Filipino jazz artists who would like to honor him such as Tateng Katinding (piano), Abe Lagrimas, Jr. (drums), Mon David (vocals), Charmaine Clamor (vocals), Maricar Cabasag (vocals), Winston Raval (piano), Ric Ickard (guitar) and Ms. Louie Reyes (vocals), and more. This is a fundraising for Romy Posadas' family.
