Wine Classes at Curiosity Store with Emma McLaughlin In Good Taste: Wine, Words, and Whimsy with Emma McLaughlin is an informative and invigorating 8-week immersive experience that explores the world of wine. Thursday, February 24th | How To Taste Wine What are tannins? Isn’t acid bad for you? Are there actually grapefruits in my wine? This first class will give any novice the confidence to talk about and describe a wine they are drinking. We will break down the different elements of aroma and flavor and explore how they are related. Thursday, March 3rd | How Wine Is Made Have you ever imagined yourself as a grape? In this class we will explore the life cycle of the grape, from the root to the bottle and everywhere in between. Thursday, March 10th | France & Italy No two countries have had more of an influence on the world’s wine than France & Italy. While vastly different in styles, both countries live and breathe wine as part of their culture. This class will discuss why that is and the signature styles of each. Thursday, March 17th | The Old World Germany, Austria, Spain, and Portugal- Rich in history and tradition, we will discuss the influence these countries have had on the wine world, their major growing regions, and signature varietals. Thursday, March 24th | New Kids On The Block Here we will discuss Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, and South Africa, where winemaking *only* goes back a few hundred years Thursday, March 31st | USA USA USA The wines made in the United States have quickly gained notoriety and have been heralded as some of the best in the world. In this session we will explore the who what when where and why of American wines. Thursday, April 7th| Bubbles & Dessert Often overlooked, sparkling and dessert wines have some of the richest histories. Let us discuss why these wines are appropriate for every day of the week, not just special occasions. Thursday, April 14th | Pairings In our final course, we will discuss wine pairings. How does wine pair with food? How does wine pair with events? With music? With life?
