Description

Let's try new foods and activities together! Join us in a family wellness event celebrating Black History Month with the local author of Princess of Picky Eating, Stacey Woodson, MS, RD, LDN. Stacey will lead a read-aloud and share meaningful insights as the author and as a dietitian. In addition to our storytime, we will have family-friendly tastes, mindfulness, art, and movement time together. This gathering is recommended for ages 5 through 12 and their caregivers. Tickets include a Princess of Picky Eating activity book and are available on a sliding scale, with a recommended donation of $20 per family. We have limited tickets available to ensure a physically distanced and safe event. If unable to attend after registering, please contact [email protected] to make your space available for another family. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ In compliance with the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health mandate, all attendees of this class must show proof of full vaccination or medical or religious exemption. This mandate applies to all attendees 5 years and 3 months of age or older. Masks are required at all times, except when eating or drinking. Please contact [email protected] with any questions or concerns. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ This event is a Books & Cooks collaboration hosted by Nourishing Literacy and the Parkway Central Children's Department, and is also sponsored in part by the Department of Science and Wellness. Nourishing Literacy provides food, literacy, wellness, and life skills programming to children, youth, and intergenerational groups, as part of the Free Library of Philadelphia's Culinary Literacy Center. Nourishing Literacy is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Edna G. Kynett Memorial Foundation. All proceeds from ticket sales support the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English language learning. To learn more, please visit freelibrary.org/cook. Please email [email protected] for more information. Every bite of food we eat tells a story. Here’s ours: The Free Library is advancing literacy in Philadelphia in a unique and innovative way—with a fork and a spoon. Cooking and eating are educational acts and provide opportunities to learn math, science, languages, history and so much more. Using cooking as the vehicle for learning, the Culinary Literacy Center advances literacy through food and cooking around a communal table. Opened in 2014, the Culinary Literacy Center is the first space of its kind in a public library and serves as a model for libraries worldwide. The Culinary Literacy Center is based in our kitchen classroom at Parkway Central, but we offer programming at nearly all of our neighborhood libraries. Culinary Literacy Center programs teach healthy cooking, build community, and promote civic dialogue. Pull up a seat at our table and see what’s cooking at the Free Library of Philadelphia!
