DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Arbor Place Mall will reopen Friday, although with limited hours and other restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Chattanooga-based CBL & Associates Properties, owner of Arbor Place, made the announcement Tuesday afternoon on the mall's website. CBL's move to reopen Arbor Place comes just after Simon Properties was reported also to be opening its Georgia malls on Friday. Simon owns seven properties in the state, including Lenox Square and the Mall of Georgia. Arbor Place spokesperson Stacey Keating said that CBL made its decision Tuesday because of planning and discussions within the company, not because Simon also had planned to reopen. The Douglasville mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday to allow extra time for cleaning. Other safety measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus are similar to those being enacted by Simon, including requiring Arbor Place employees to wear masks and have their temperatures checked before their shifts start. Unlike Simon, which is limiting access to their food courts, Arbor Place will close its food-court seating altogether. In addition, Arbor Place will prohibit groups of 10 or more people from congregating in mall common areas. "We ask that the public exercise good judgment when visiting the property, including following CDC guidelines for social distancing and hygiene practices," CBL said in its website announcement. "We also ask that anyone with a fever or experiencing other symptoms to stay home." Arbor Place has posted its announcement and full details of its reopening on its COVID-19 update page.
