Join our team! WSU Puyallup Research and Extension Center is looking to fill 1-2 Utility Worker positions (part- or full-time). Summary of Duties: The Utility Worker performs manual or unskilled work in maintenance, construction, utility systems, farm work, and grounds keeping work at WSU Puyallup. •Assist journey-level trades workers in construction, maintenance, building, and plumbing repairs. •Load and unload trucks. •Move and assemble furniture, materials, supplies and equipment. •Assist with painting using sprayer, brush or rollers. •Assist with prep for facility alterations, maintenance projects, building or repairing walkways, streets or parking areas. •Clean up after projects are complete. •Operate power tools and equipment necessary for maintenance projects such as pneumatic tamper, jack hammers and sprayers for painting. •Cut and burn brush and weeds, clean gutters, culverts and other drainage structures. •Assist with mowing grass and trimming trees, raking and removing leaves. Install and repair fences and signs. •Maintain irrigation systems and maintain planting beds and landscaped areas. •Use hand tools to excavate debris and or build trenches. •Operate appropriate power tools to facilitate work such as chain saw, chipper, lawn mower, weed eater and leaf blower. •Drive light equipment in transporting supplies, equipment and rubbish. •Operate motorized equipment such as trucks, tractors, forklift, tractor mowers, bucket loaders, dump trucks, bucket trucks and man-lifts as needed. •May assist other equipment operators in activities such as ditch digging or material removal at a job site. •Perform routine equipment maintenance. •Provide relief security and relief custodial duties as needed. •Assist with obsolete equipment surplus. •Steam clean and/or wash vehicles and farm equipment. •Other duties as required. Required Qualifications: Six months of manual labor experience OR equivalent education/experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in construction or maintenance. Experience operating motorized equipment such as tractors and forklifts.
