Description

Here is a interesting letter. I just want to provide you with an update regarding your concerns about the homeless encampment behind your property. As you are aware, our office reached out to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to ask for assistance about your request to remove the homeless encampment behind your property. Unfortunately, we were advised that as there is no crime occurring in the area, due to recent policy changes they do not have legal authority to remove the encampment unless the King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) needs their assistance in doing so. When we reached out to DCHS to see if they were aware of the presence of this homeless encampment and if they could assist you on the issue, we were advised that King County is not currently removing homeless camps. They explained that they are following CDC guidance to not move encampments to mitigate the spread of COVID. Instead of removing camps, DCHS is pursuing a Health through Housing (HtH) strategy. You can read more about this strategy here Health Through Housing - King County. If you have questions about this initiative, or about DCHS’s policy to not remove the camps during the pandemic, please reach out to the Executive’s office. You may reach his office at or . If you believe a crime is occurring in the area, please do not hesitate to contact the KCSO.
