CLEARWATER, FL — A Clearwater couple is behind bars after police said they used an expired car warranty ruse to scam an 84-year-old Connecticut woman out of her money. Tynisha Harris and Deron Kollore, who live in an apartment complex on Fairwood Avenue, are facing multiple charges, according to police. After scamming the woman by phone, police said the couple used her stolen credit card information to pay their rent, buy food and purchase multiple electronic items. Police said the pilfered cards helped pay for 17 meals at Smokey Bones and a variety of electronics from Best Buy. Harris was charged with scheming to defraud and criminal use of personal identification information. Police said both were booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Clearwater police are using this incident as a "teachable moment." "If you have elderly relatives who could fall victim to this kind of scam, please counsel them about how to avoid becoming a victim of criminals whose sole goal is to steal their financial information," police warned via Facebook.
