Description

Press release from the Spokane Fire Department: 2022-02-07 On Saturday, February 5, 2022, at approximately 5:45 am, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to the 1100 block of East Wellesley Ave on a report of a possible garage fire. Spokane Engine 2 from the Logan Neighborhood Fire Station arrived minutes after dispatch and reported a detached garage heavily involved in fire but not threatening other structures. The on-scene crews adapted quickly, deploying multiple hose-lines extinguishing the fire within 5 minutes of arrival. Simultaneous occupant searches were conducted and were negative. A total of two ladder companies and four engines responded with no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the SFD Special Investigation Unit (SIU). MEDIA: Educational Message: Plan and practice your home fire escape plan. There should be two ways out of any room used for sleeping. Children, older adults, and people living with access or functional needs may require additional help to wake up and get out. Have an agreed-upon meeting place outside, a safe distance from your home where firefighters can easily find you. Remember, smoke and heat rise, so stay low to the ground when exiting the house.
