REDMOND, WA — The polls have closed and the first round of election results have arrived for several communities across King County. More than 1.1 million registered voters were eligible to cast ballots in the February election, with school levies up for consideration in districts around Seattle and the Eastside. Voters living within the Lake Washington School District saw three ballot measures on their February ballots, including two up for renewal and a new construction levy. The first measure would renew the district's Educational Programs and Operations Levy for another four years, which funds 14 percent of the district's overall budget, pays for athletic costs and helps provide funds for school nurses. The second levy renewal would continue funding for things like laptops, tablets and other digital learning tools, along with improvements for other systems and campus improvements. The third ballot measure, the Building Excellence Construction Levy, will help the state's second-largest school district keep up with soaring student enrollment, including funding to build a new elementary school and construct classroom additions. All three measures had a strong showing in early results. Here's how results were shaping up after the first ballot drop on election night: Proposition No. 1 Yes: 56.28%No: 43.72% Proposition No. 2 Yes: 57.14%No: 42.86% Proposition No. 3 Yes: 54.24%No: 45.76% King County Elections mailed ballots to voters in January and expected roughly 32 percent — or 380,000 ballots — would be returned. County data showed turnout trending a little lower leading up to election night, with 25 percent marked as returned earlier Tuesday. However, last-minute ballots postmarked or dropped off on Election Day will be added to the tally in the coming days. Results will be updated and posted online daily until the special election is certified on Feb. 18.
