WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 17-year-old boy was assaulted in Woodbridge on Monday evening, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department. Authorities believe the boy was the victim of a robbery attempt. Originally, police reported that the teen was shot on Monday night. After further investigation, they determined that the boy was not suffering from a gunshot wound and no shots were fired. Police learned of the assault around 7 p.m. on Monday. At that time, officers responded to the scene in the 14100 block of Big Crest Lane. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the victim suffering from what was originally believed to be a gunshot wound. They provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived on the scene, according to the police report. Rescue personnel took the victim to a hospital, where his injuries were not considered life-threatening. Through their investigation, officers determined that the victim had planned to meet with some friends in the area. Instead, he was approached by multiple people who demanded his property before assaulting him. One of the suspects had a firearm and used it to assault the victim, police said. After the assault, the victim temporarily lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, the victim called a family member who contacted emergency services. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. A police K-9 searched the area, but they were unable to locate any suspects. No property was missing after the assault, police said. No detailed suspect description was available on Tuesday afternoon. Anyone with more information about the assault can contact the Prince William County Police Department at 703-792-7000.
