Updated (Feb. 8, 5:15 p.m.): This story was updated with information from the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department blog post HERNDON, VA — Fre inspectors determined that an accidental electrical event involving an air conditioning unit was the cause of a fire at single-family home in Herndon on Saturday, according to a Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department blog post. Fire and rescue crews from Fairfax and Loudoun counties responded around 11:44 a.m. for the report of a house fire in the 12100 block of Eddyspark Drive in the Herndon area. When units arrived on the scene, they observed fire visible on the side and rear of a two-store, single family home. Fire crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. Fire inspectors estimated the damage to be $100,000, which includes a small amount of property damage to a neighboring home. Both occupants were in the home's family room when they heard an explosion outside. After seeing smoke in the backyard, one of the occupants spotted fire coming from the AC disconnect outside the home. After calling 911, the two occupants exited the home. The two occupants were displaced due to the fire. They declined assistance from the Red Cross. (Google Maps)
