LITTLETON, CO — A man hit and drove over an Arapahoe County deputy Monday evening, at East Cresthill Ave and South Saint Paul Way, police said. The deputy was responding to a call of an "unwanted person" in a house. The man, who had been asked to leave, sprayed pepper spray into the air and then left the house. According to police officials, when deputies arrived on the scene, a vehicle started and drove slowly toward the deputy, knocking him to the ground and driving over his legs. The man then drove away, officials said. "Other deputies that were arriving on the scene at the same time saw the deputy get struck by the vehicle and went to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle failed to stop, and a short chase ensued," said deputy John Bartmann, public information officer for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office. The deputies were eventually able to end the chase by using a "termination technique," officials said. According to CBS Denver, the man attacked the deputies with a fishing hook when they attempted to arrest him and was tased several times. Some deputies sustained minor injuries in the struggle. The deputy who was run over was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released with only minor injuries, officials said. The man who ran him over has not yet been identified. He was also taken to the hospital, where he was treated and sent on to jail.
