Good day, neighbors! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with a fresh edition of the Round Rock Daily. First, today's weather: Milder with plenty of sun. High: 65 Low: 38. Here are the top 3 stories today in Round Rock: On Sunday, the City of Austin issued a city-wide water boil advisory after an internal process issue at the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant. The City of Round Rock assured its water customers that the city's system is separate from Austin's and that Round Rock has been "unaffected" by the nearby treatment issues and boil notice. Several Round Rock ISD schools utilize Austin's water system, and the district issued a statement that its staff worked "through the weekend to ensure all students and staff members at affected campuses have access to clean drinking water" on campus. (City of Round Rock) Round Rock ISD schools continue to contend with a staffing crisis that is impacting local students and educators. Over the winter break, Central Texas saw a sharp uptick in COVID-19 cases, which led to an average of 60 percent of district staff being absent so far in 2022. While there has been a documented shortage of substitute teachers, district officials said positions throughout multiple departments have been "extremely difficult to fill" throughout the pandemic. (Community Impact Newspaper) The City of Round Rock has recently approved multiple infrastructure and transportation projects that will soon be underway. In mid-January, the city signed off on adding a new traffic signal to the intersection of Highway 79 and Africa Lane/Brushy Creek Plant Road, with a timeline to be determined. Officials also approved an agreement for the relocation of a water line as part of the expansion of Gattis School Road, which they expect will be completed by May 2022.
