Douglas County Seniors Graduate In Person On Tuesday, Wednesday

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — After two months of waiting, area high-school students are finally getting their in-person graduation ceremonies — with masks and social distancing, of course. The Douglas County Sentinel reports that all five county high schools will be holding ceremonies today and tomorrow. All but Douglas County High School will hold their commencements in their football stadiums. DCHS will hold its ceremonies at New Manchester High's stadium because its own stadium is being renovated. Chapel Hill High School had its ceremony at 8 a.m., and Alexander High School will have its ceremony at 8 p.m. tonight. Graduation ceremonies scheduled for Wednesday are: New Manchester High School — 8 a.m.Lithia Springs High School — 10:30 a.m.Douglas County High School — 8 p.m.Each senior was given two ticket for the ceremonies, and the school system is encouraging social distancing for those in attendance. When commencement exercises originally scheduled for May had to be postponed because of the coronavirus epidemic, Superintendent Trent North promised to have in-person ceremonies eventually, if possible. "We want to make sure we do this class justice," DCHS Principal Andre Weaver said to The Douglas County Sentinel. "We want to give them the recognition that they deserve."
