NEW ORLEANS, LA — The New Orleans Saints are looking internally for their leader in the post-Sean Payton era.
The team told defensive coordinator Dennis Allen he will be the Saints' next head coach, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing league sources.
Allen replaces Payton, who went 152-89 in 16 seasons and led the Saints to their first and only Super Bowl victory in 2009.
Allen was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2012-'14, getting fired four games into the 2014 season, and went 8-28. He has been the Saints' defensive coordinator since 2015 and previously held assistant coaching roles with New Orleans from 2006-'10.
