Press release from Waukee Community School District:
Feb 8, 2022
There's never been a project quite like this at Waukee Middle School. The school's 7th grade band, led by Mary Crandell, is working on a commissioned piece this semester. The "dymaxion" project gives students a chance to invest into a music lesson in a new and unique way. The piece was composed for this group by Dr. James M. David of Colorado State University. The student's investment will be capped off with the "Premiere" performance at the Adventureland Band Festival in May.
In addition to the performance, students have researched the history of the word "dymaxion" and have spent time learning about the composer's intent. They will also be taking a virtual tour of the "Dymaxion" courtesy of Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
Watch the video associated with the story to see how our students are taking advantage of this unique opportunity.
