Pittsburgh-Area College To Reduce Faculty, Majors

MEADVILLE, PA — Allegheny College will eliminate 25 full-time faculty positions and three majors. The college currently has 154 full-time faculty, a number that will be reduced to 129 by the 2024-25 academic year. The college's board of trustees approved the move over the weekend. The college said the staff reductions primarily are voluntary and will occur via retirements and resignations. Allegheny Campus reported that the geology, film and digital storytelling and religious studies majors will be be eliminated. The Chinese minor also will be cut. The college has an undergraduate enrollment of about 1,700, according to U.S. News & World Report. The college is ranked 85th among national liberal arts colleges by U.S. News for 2o22.
