Youth in Pre Med is a program founded in May of 2020 by Viva Voong, a rising junior at Lowell High School. This program aims to keep students involved in the community amidst the COVID-19 pandemic while educating students about the importance of science and medicine. Youth in Pre Med offers opportunities for middle school and high school students! Middle school students (6th to 8th grade) have the opportunity to attend zoom presentations that discuss fascinating science topics and medical breakthroughs. We hope that these presentations will show youth the importance of science and medicine during this difficult time. By attending our fall programming, middle school students will be able to receive references for highly selective youth programs and learn how to apply to and interview for these programs. Middle school students will also be able to connect with high school students who will become a part of their network and provide advice on how to succeed in high school. Presentations will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on the first and third Sundays of each month starting in September. For many high school students, volunteer opportunities and programs have been suspended due to COVID-19. Youth in Pre Med is accepting volunteers to become part of the team! Volunteers will help create presentations, develop public speaking skills by presenting to youth and learn how to promote events! Volunteers will meet virtually once a week and meeting times will be decided after volunteers are selected in order to accommodate everyone’s availability!
