MI COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations Continue To Decline

MICHIGAN — In a sign that Michigan's omicron peak may have passed since its surge in January, state health officials reported Monday a decline in confirmed COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, including a 45 percent decline in people hospitalized with COVID-19 over the past 24 days. Health officials reported 2,516 people hospitalized in Michigan with confirmed COVID-19, which is a significant drop from the record 4,580 health officials saw in January. At the time, there were also 117 children in the hospital with confirmed cases COVID-19 on that date. Now state health officials reported 62 children are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Monday morning. Furthermore, confirmed COVID-19 cases have also continued trending downward, with 9,898 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, which amounts to a three day average of 3,299. That number has also significantly declined since Michigan reported a record 20,346 average cases per day on Jan. 7. As of Monday afternoon, 65 percent of Michigan's population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
