Accepting “rescue” reptiles

Description

Disclaimer: I am not looking to BUY your unwanted pet. I am hoping to offer help to people who have come to know they can not care for a pet properly and are looking out for that pets best interest. I firmly believe that all resources should go into helping the pet adjust, not to the former owner. Note: I do not sell or trade any reptiles. I provide a forever home. Note 2: I place rescue in quotes in the title because I often work with people who have completely healthy animals, and may not be in need of “rescue,” but simply cannot keep them any longer. I respect the hell outta these folks. I am an experienced reptile keeper. I have worked with snakes in zoos and several other reptiles outside of zoos. I have experience with Metabolic Bone Disease (photo of my rescue bearded dragon as the most severe cases I’ve seen). I know my limitations, and I will not take an animal I am not able to care for provide for correctly. Please contact me if you have a reptile you need to rehome. I will do what I can to help. I am not a vet but I am also willing to offer advice or help. I will always ask that the animal be sent with the enclosure it has been living in with you. This helps to limit the amount of stress through transition. I may also consider some small mammals but I’m less prepared to do so. Dogs and cats are a complete no go. I do what I do because most shelters really do not have the knowledge or capacity to care for reptiles well (I love dogs and cats and have a few of my own but I’m at my capacity in those areas). I recommend seeking a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats. I personally recommend Lollypop Farms in Fairport. I’m sure there are good ones close by but I have personal experience with Lollypop.
